Can Diabetes Make a Heart Attack Feel Different?

A small study in the U.K. suggests that people with diabetes may not always feel classic symptoms like  chest pain when they have a heart attack. Most participants in the study reported that they didn’t feel the kind of acute chest pain they expected from a heart attack. The study’s authors suggest that long-term diabetes damages both the heart and the nerves, which may mean the experience of a heart attack feels different for people with diabetes – and missing the seriousness of their symptoms can lead to higher risk of death.
