Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy Risk in Children

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) can affect patients with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. It often affects the legs and feet, causing pain, numbness, and tingling. It can also affect the digestive system, urinary tract, blood vessels and heart. It affects over a quarter of adults newly diagnosed with diabetes, but it has not been well studied in children and adolescents. The new SEARCH study looked at the condition specifically in children and teens, and found 7% of those with type 1 and 22% of those with type 2 were affected. Read more
