A new study found that the diabetes medication metformin, most commonly used to treat type 2 diabetes, also has particular benefit for children with type 1 diabetes, particularly for heart health. For children with type 1 who are above average weight, metformin provided a significant improvement in vascular smooth muscle function. Metformin also improved HbA1c levels and helped reduce daily insulin dose for the children. Read more
